If you have surgery to change the shape of your foot or whenever you have a fusion surgery, you are at risk of mal-union.

This is where the bones heal but they are in an undesirable or uncomfortable position.

​This may mean you need to wear an orthotic (such as an insole) after surgery but could mean you need further surgery to try to improve the position.
